our heritage
from bricks to fully vitrified

Since 1870, in Wehrendorf, Germany Argelith has produced one of the world’s most sustainable building materials: ceramic. It started with bricks delivered by horse-drawn carriages. In 1920, Johannes Bitter acquired the brickyard for his son, Heinrich Bitter, who later co-founded Argelith Bodenkeramik GmbH. Together with partner Helmut Beste, they made Wehrendorf's bricks famous for their exceptional durability.

In 1965, Heinrich and his wife Christel shifted the business from bricks to dry-pressed clinker tiles, laying the foundation for today’s Argelith. The 1980s marked success as their tiles gained international acclaim. Heinrich's investments in the 2000s in fully vitrified tile production set the stage for the company’s future. In 2022, leadership of the company was passed to Heinrich’s daughter, Eva Bitter, who continues to uphold Argelith’s renowned quality while guiding the company forward.

Today, we are committed to delivering the exceptional quality and service that installation experts, and acid-proof construction professionals worldwide have come to expect from Argelith. Through innovation and continuous development, we aim to be your premier partner in industrial porcelain stoneware tiles.

embracing diversity
in product innovation

For decades, Argelith has been at the forefront of crafting industrial-grade tiles, demonstrating that specialization does not limit diversity in our product offerings. Our commitment to meeting and anticipating customer needs has driven us to continually expand our portfolio. Key innovations over the years have included the introduction of clinker tiles with enhanced thicknesses starting at 16 mm in 1965, the launch of specialized clinker tiles tailored for industrial flooring with superior technical attributes in 1969, and the adoption of new firing techniques that brought vibrant, innovative colors to our range in 1973 and 1988. The year 2001 marked the debut of our robust, fully vitrified tiles, followed by the unveiling of our Dekortec designer series in 2009, blending style with functionality.
